Happy Halloween!!!
So this morning we carved our pumpkins as a family. (I know it's last minute, but the last few weeks have been crazy.)
If you haven't noticed before, carving a pumpkin can become a rote experience. You carved out the lid, pull out the guts, and proceed to drawing a face or some other popular carving. My son, who is 3, decided to grab a piece of the pumpkin my husband had cast aside and took a huge bite out of. We both looked over at him in shock. I have honestly never seen someone eat a pumpkin raw like that. Maybe I've been denied such an interesting culinary delight. In that one moment my son took what we had turned into a routine and made it unique. It reminded me that children really do have extraordinary vision and sense of adventure. If I could capture that sense of awe and wonder in every day of my life, the world would become an amazing place to explore. An open mind is a marvelous aspect to aspire to.
