Days 2-4 of Our Move
I'm sitting here at our local Starbucks FINALLY updating my blog! Our house is having technical difficulties at the moment, but we hope to have our internet up by tomorrow afternoon. So for now, here is Days 2-4 of our trip out here.
Okay…so
we’re a few more days into our journey and things have been exhausting, fun,
and slightly eventful.
Day
Two:
We
drove into the Grand Canyon to the Watchtower on the South Rim. Luckily the
rain held out for the day so we could enjoy the beautiful sights. At one point
we were posing for pictures and told Maddox to hide a banana he was munching on
behind his back. Unfortunately, he dropped it on my toe while the shot was
taken. I kept my composure, but as we turned to pick it up, a local squirrel made
off with his scrumptious find. It was only after the fact that we noticed
several signs warning against feeding the wildlife. Oops!
We
finished the day at the pool watching the clouds roll in. It was the fastest
storm I’ve witnessed in fact. Lightning, thunder, and hail all in one moment
together. It lasted just long enough to get us kicked out of the pool, pizza
ordered in, and the kids amped up for a late bedtime.
Day
Three:
The
day began with plenty of rain and surprisingly some cold weather. Believe
me….it was actually kinda nice. We decided to add on to our adventure with
a trip to a wolf sanctuary on the way to our next stop. The directions appeared
to only add about an hour total to our drive time for the day so we quickly set
out; All the while chasing lighting and
rain throughout the day. To add to the adventure, our journey included a
very muddy dirt road that lead into the sanctuary. Our cars officially look like they’ve been out on Safari for the past
few days!
We
got to join a tour (late, but still in
plenty of time), that was quite informative about wolves and wolf dogs. We
all enjoyed the visit: Me especially, after reading Lone Wolf by Jodi
Picoult a few months ago. Special thanks to
my dear friend April for that read. ;) As we trudged through the Sanctuary (in our flip-flops – we’re from Cali people)
our shoes accumulated about 5 lbs of mud each. As we went along, it became quite difficult not to slip and fall with the rain continuing to come down.
Day
Four:
Just
before stopping for the night we ate at a local Sonic with a playground for the
kids to run off some of their pent-up crazy. It was the popular place to be in
the community this evening. Sitting there watching the different families laugh
and play together, we were reminded of all our close friends back home. We miss
you all so much!!!
